The newest addition to our family

Last Thursday I brought home a new puppy. He is a Jack Russell and Australian Shepherd mix, weighing in at about 19 pounds. He is between 14-16 weeks old, so I figure that he will top out somewhere around 30 pounds. That’s quite a monster compared to 9 pound Peanut! Tater, (that’s what Jake wanted to name him!), is simply the best puppy!! He has the sweetest personality and even sweeter eyes, (which thankfully don’t have that creepy blue thing going on that so many Australian Shepherds do).
I started to write this yesterday but then I got tied up and I never got a change to finish it. Good thing too, since I was going to brag non stop about what a happy and well behaved puppy he is. We found out yesterday that he is very capable of wrecking havoc while we are not home!! I left the door open to his house when I went to work since we always do that for Peanut, I guess I just wasn’t thinking. Jake called me at 430 to let me know that BOTH of the dogs were in a LOT of trouble. They had knocked the baby gate down that keeps them in the laundry room and had free roam of 2600 square foot of raw hardwood floors and various odds and ends of things left laying around since we are not used to picking up for a puppy. They shit all over the area rugs upstairs, they pissed all over the raw and exposed floors downstairs. The shredded magazines and dumped laundry baskets. They devoured the food in their bowls and dumped their water dish. They even got the door open to the cabinet where I keep the 30 pound bag of dog food and ripped it open, (it appears that they did this just before Jake came home since there was hardly any less missing since I had fed them in the morning, thankfully). Needless to say, they were both shut up together in the cage when I come home. The mess wasn’t as bad as what Jake made it out to be, but I still learned my lesson!
I said the day I brought him home that I was going to try hard not to baby this dog like I did Peanut when we brought him home since I blame Peanut’s attitude on that. I would be lying if I said I was doing a good job at that! We do make Tater, AND PEANUT, sleep downstairs, which makes for a wonderful nights sleep for me!!!
